Bread, anyone?

November 21, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Ok so I’m really not trying to be one of these ignorant americans, that think all Americans are fat, lazy, fastfood-worshipping people…And this is sometimes really hard, especially after I spend 3 weeks in Wisconsin, this summer, where basically all my prejudices, I had about americans where fully fulfilled…

Anyways, I really don’t think that it’s ignorant to say, that americans can’t bake any good bread…It’s always white and fluffy and tastes like nothing…

European bread is everything, american bread isn’t…There are so many different kinds and especially the Bavarian bread is something I really missed when I was in the States. We actually have a bread-mascott that appears on that one German-TV-channel for kids…

I think that really made my point. Bread is a big part of german culture and it IS some amazing stuff!!!

AND NOW, you can even walk in bread!!! Some french artist somehow found away to create durable shoes, that are made out of real bread…This is AMAZING and I really wish I had these extra 70 Euros to buy me one of these…

Deep inside, I’ve always wanted to walk down the streets with little baguettes on my feet!!! hahaha

“Jetzt wächst zusammen, was zusammen gehört.”

November 9, 2009 · Leave a Comment

So let’s make this one a history lesson. The 9th november is a day of fate in german history. In 1918, this day was the day, the Weimar republic was proclaimed. 1923 on this day, Hitler failed at his first try to get the political power during the “Beer Hall Putsch”. 2 years later, Hitler formed the SS. In 1938 on this day 1938: In the Reichskristallnacht or “the night of broken glass”, synagogues and jewish property were burned and destroyed on a large scale. Finally in 1989, exactly 20 years ago. The Berlin Wall was torn down, which was equivalent with the end of communism in eastern Europe. Too bad I don’t remember this day, when my dad pushed me through the Brandenburg Gate in my buggy. But still I think I can make a quick résumé about what changed in the last 20 years in this country. Well I guess everybody that lived in the GDR 20 years ago, is free now, we have a united country, at least if we take a look at the landscape. But still there are many ignorant western Germans, and probably eastern as well, that won’t accept each other as equal, make fun of each other whenever they get the chance. Still politicians call the states from the former GDR as “new states”, they make a difference between “new” and “old” states. Still people in eastern Germany get paid LESS for exactly the same job. Still this WALL exists in so many german heads. I think this is just stupid and sad. We still have to give the proof, that Germany earned this unity. But this will probably take another 20 years. Maybe it would help to make today to a national holiday, but this wouldn’t make any sense with all the days in the backhead that I mentioned earlier. I really don’t want to celebrate this day together with Nazis in the streets, that would do the same thing on Hitlers birthday on the 20th of April. So not a national holiday. But still nobody is celebrating and I don’t know why…Germany is a weird country.

Sers Julia!

October 29, 2009 · Leave a Comment

So today I got the sad message, that Julia, which was one of my favorite bands a couple of years ago, announced their last concert for this december in Vienna…I don’t know any details about the split, but however it sounds pretty definete…

Well and this April I even had the opportunity to see them live, so I was at one of there last concerts I guess…Actually I bought tickets for the german band “Itchy Poopzkid” and it turned out, Julia was the supporting band. Amazing show, and I think the crowd loved the supporting band even more than the main one. Though I personally count the RUN DMC cover from Itchy Poopzkid and of course the amazing guitar box crowdsurfing event to the highlight of this evening…

Whatever back to that austrian band Julia…I really loved them a couple of years ago and they were one of my first bands I ever listened to…My music taste kind of changed over the years, so I’m not into them anymore, but still they quit and obviously not gonna be playing live anywhere, so I’m gonna miss them…I think I should close this post with the last song they ever played in Germany…

What’s the Story? Morning Glory!!!

October 27, 2009 · Leave a Comment

As I’m not a big OASIS fan, which explains, that a couple of days back, the title of this post would’ve filled me with disgust. Seriously, what have this guys done? They created this one song (Wonderwall) and everybody freaked out, and since then they were sort of legends with everybody throwing money at them.

But to the topic: I found this amazing video from  photographer Mark Watson. And I think he did an amazing job capturing the Morning Glory Cloud phenomenon and of course this crazy Red Bull hang-glider guy, who was the first guy to have the opportunity to perform stunts on these Sky-Tsunamis or whatever you want to call it. My plans were always to go to Australia, and seeing these beautiful clouds are just another encouragement to do this some day!!!

However I just wanted to share what I’ve learned today! Thank you Wikipedia!!!

Someone buy me this!

October 25, 2009 · Leave a Comment

So there’s this snowboard helmet company (HELT-Pro®) from southern Bavaria. A friend of mine just sent me the link from their hompage. Basically they got the idea, that a helmet doesn’t have to look like a helmet. So what they did was creating helmets, that would look rather like stylish hats, so people can have the experience of riding down a ski-slope, without adding this weird look of a construction worker to their appearance. I think it’s a great idea, and I would get one of these right now, if there wasn’t this money problem. Prices start at 80€+++

Anyways I think their website is worth taking a look at it…And honestly who doesn’t want to look like a sibirian sled dog racer, while snowboarding/skiing???

But as long as I won’t be able to spend 80€ for a helmet I’ll probably go skiing without one for another season…Still a helmet makes sense. It’s way safer out there…You never know where’s the next brainiac on the track, who’s suffering from the overestimation of his own capibilities, and still rides down these slopes, thinking that half a gallon beer would never affect his abilities.

Just because Bode Miller CAN win a Downhill World Cup drunk, doesn’t mean YOU can do this! And yeah I know that Obama said “Yes We Can” and obviously this guy can do anything. I mean he even won the Nobel Peace Prize, right? This might also be affected by the beer I was talking about earlier. Seriously next time these guys from Norway should go dry to one of these comissions, where they think about the Nobel Prize awardees…

Whatever this doesn’t belong here anyway…

Getting started…

The Amazingness!!!

Ok, I really don’t know what to say to get all this started, but I think a good thing to talk about at the start is always food. And if we talk about getting something started, it would make sense to talk about breakfast. And there’s not much I have to say about breakfast, except one magic word. This word would be NUTELLA…It might not be known all over the world, but in Germany Nutella is probably the most bought product for breakfast, after milk and cereals of course. So Nutella ruled the german breakfast-market for decades now, I think. But there’s something better on the market, that might push Nutella from this throne. So the new magical word would be OVOMALTINE CRUNCHY CREAM. The first time that I came in contact with this amazing stuff, was during a snowboarding-trip a couple of years ago in Austria with a friend from the States, that I grew up together with in Germany. And I’m really bad in explaining exactly, what something tastes like in a language, that is not my mother tongue, so I’ll just make it easy: If you already now the taste of amazingness that you have on your tongue when you eat a nutella bread, then this would be even 5 times better. It’s produced in Switzerland, so the ingredients on the glas are either in german, or in french, no english. So if you’re capable of one of these two language, you should check this product out:

http://www.wander.ch/ovomaltinedetail?prodId=208

However: Today was this epic day, when I finally saw the first glas of this stuff in a store in Germany, not even 400m away from my appartment and I almost had tears in my eyes…Maybe one day, this will also happen to Barg’s Rootbeer, but that day might never come…

So much about food. I have no clue what happens to this blog, and what exact direction it hits, but I’ll probably figure this out in the next days. Cheers. Keep reading →
